Harm Reduction Works
ROCHESTER

Harm Reduction Works meetings are a low-barrier alternative to abstinence-based mutual aid meetings or recovery programs. Harm reduction is an approach that compassionately and directly engages people who use drugs to help prevent overdose or infectious disease transmission, reduce stigma around substance use disorders, and embrace the concept of meeting people wherever they are. All are welcome at HRW meetings, regardless of recovery status; if they are on MAT or behavioral health medication, or if they are currently using drugs. The purpose of these meetings is to create a safe and compassionate place for people to connect with other members of the community, and to create a culture of honesty and openness about different recovery pathways and implementation of harm reduction principles.
